The results of oVRcome’s newly published virtual reality study were recently featured in several media articles, including ASCO Post, Vanderbilt Health News, and HemOnc Today. In the study, patients who used VR during chemotherapy infusion visits reported lower pain and stress, lower median heart rates, and high satisfaction compared with patients doing usual activities such as reading or watching TV.

These findings support oVRcome’s mission to make immersive technology a practical, accessible tool for improving comfort during medical care.

We’re proud to announce that the results of our randomized controlled trial (RCT) were published in the February 2025 issue of the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing—and featured on the front cover!

Our study explored how virtual reality (VR) can enhance the experience of patients undergoing outpatient chemotherapy. The findings showed reduced stress and pain levels, along with improved mood, highlighting VR’s potential as a valuable, non-invasive tool in oncology care.

We’re thankful to our research team, clinical collaborators, and participants for making this milestone possible. Read more about the study in this month’s issue of CJON!

oVRcome has received IRB approval of our study to investigate the ability of virtual reality to function as a novel distraction intervention and improve the experience of patients who are receiving chemotherapy in the infusion clinic. The study will deploy and evaluate VR as an intervention for stress, pain, and negative affect in a cohort of 100 patients receiving chemotherapy.

Measures of interest include behavioral questionnaires regarding stress, pain, and negative affect, as well as heart rate and cyber sickness. For more details, view the clinicaltrials.gov page here!
